What are Polynucleotide Injections?

Injections of DNA fragments (PN) that repair skin and boost collagen.

Polynucleotide (PN) therapy involves injecting purified DNA fragments (polydeoxyribonucleotides, PDRN) into the skin to trigger a regenerative process. These DNA fragments act as powerful biostimulators: they encourage your skin’s cells (especially fibroblasts) to ramp up production of collagen and elastin, and they improve microcirculation (blood flow) in the area. The science behind it originated from wound healing research – it was found that PN derived from salmon DNA can significantly speed up tissue repair. In cosmetic use, this translates to skin rejuvenation. By introducing PN into the dermis (middle layer of skin), we essentially “trick” the skin into healing mode. The benefits include improved skin elasticity, better hydration (PNs have a water-binding effect, so they moisturize from within), reduction in fine lines and crepey texture, and even a brighter, more even complexion over time.

The procedure is somewhat similar to mesotherapy: after cleansing and numbing your face, our practitioner uses a fine needle to make a series of very small injections across the treatment area (typically the whole face, and sometimes the neck). Each injection deposits a tiny amount of the polynucleotide solution into the skin. You might see some small bumps at the injection sites initially – this is normal and means the product is in the skin, doing its work. These bumps usually settle within a day or so as the solution diffuses and is absorbed. A session takes around 20-30 minutes. There is minimal pain due to the numbing cream, though you might feel little pinches. After treatment, aside from some redness and tiny marks for a day, there’s little downtime. Because the changes come from increased collagen and new cell growth, the results are not instant – they develop gradually. Typically, a series of 3 treatments (spaced 2-4 weeks apart) is recommended to kickstart the regeneration process. A month or two after completing the series, patients notice their skin is softer, fuller (in terms of plumpness, not like a filler but a healthy thickness), and more youthful-looking. Fine lines are reduced, pores may appear smaller, and the skin often has a lovely fresh glow. Polynucleotide injections are a wonderful option for patients who want an overall skin quality improvement and radiance boost, beyond what topical skincare can achieve, using the body’s own restorative mechanisms.
